  • One of our dogs died last night. He'd been off for a few days and we kept taking him to the vet then last night he stayed the night there with an iv and the vet called this morning to say he died. The really stupid part is its all because we couldn't break of the stupid habit of eating cat poop. Which gave him pancreatitis which led to an infection which led to him not eating and getting so weak that to get him in the car we needed a homemade stretcher. I took a picture of him feeling sorry for himself yesterday figuring it'd be cute once he's well but not it's just the worlds most depressing picture. I don't know how his bigger little brother is going to live without him. So that's what's been going on since whenever I last updated. Is there anyone out there that's enjoying their holiday season?

  • Was a bit overwhelmed, with Christmas being in 18 days and still having 10 gifts to buy or make, when I got up this morning. So I got some serious brainstorming in and by tonight had managed to finish a gift an a half, and the other half I have to shop for first, which I'm doing tomorrow. This at least will have me finished with all the kids which care about Christmas, my youngest niece is only a year and a half so she's no idea what's coming and I've no idea what to make her. I was sort of thinking of attempting a rag doll but I have no idea where I would even START and 18 days. Oh and my sister in law informed me that my brother wants the 300 dollar vampire Angel puppet. Yeah. OK.
As for what I worked on today, my 6 year old niece is obsessed with earrings, I made her some seashell ones just for the heck of it over summer and she went nuts for them. And they were just tiny clam shells. So I made her some glittery rose earrings in her favorite color:

I think I'm the only person in the world that digs through junk drawers in an attempt to find stuff to turn into jewelry. haha my various junk drawers were bust this time though and it's actually just those cheap craft silk flowers.
My eldest niece is a Doctor Who nut, which sort of makes shopping for her super easy.

So I made this giant Dalek out of felt and I'm going to go buy a hoodie to sew it on the back then I'm thinking I'll put the doctor who logo on the front and "Exterminate!" down one of the arms.

  • So I had to watch my grandmother for awhile today, this always lands on days when the weather is somewhat nice. We watched Elvira's Movie Macabre: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. It was brilliant. Well no, it was terrible, but that's what makes it brilliant. I had a couple hours before sundown so I figured I'd take Chachi for a walk and I grabbed my camera just on the off chance we find anything interesting. The lake is pretty much deserted now, saw two people cleaning fish and not a single boat on the water. So we're walking along the water, looking for shells that have been worn down to just white, I'm looking anyway, Chachi is chasing Killdeer and claiming territory. The only thing I really saw were a bunch of deer up the hill giving us the death stare. When we got between some further hills I looked up to where I knew a Bald Eagle nest is but they haven't really been sticking close to the nest since spring, then this massive bird flies straight between the two hills. It lands on a half fallen tree and it's too far away to really be sure of what it is. I can't possibly pass an interesting bird without going to see it, it's an illness. So I put Chachi on a shorter leash, thinking if it is one of the bald eagles it could take him whole, and we start climbing to the left of the nest which is where this bird is sitting. Of course it takes off before we get near it but I take a couple pictures of the nest and look around trying to figure out where it went. Suddenly, from right below the nest there's this big woosh and I see a bald eagle take off. I got a picture of both of them under the nest without even realizing they were there! So the bigger of the two does a little circle then lands up at the top of the tree for a minute. When it takes off again the smaller one chases after it and they do a big half circle around the other side of the hill and then fly off out of sight. Alright, that was cool, now let's go home. Yes. I talk to my dog like he can understand english, moving on. So we head the opposite direction back down to the water and I pull out my phone to text someone. I'm like halfway through the sentence when there's this big ruckus to the right and chachi starts flipping out tugging on his leash. The bigger of the two eagles takes off from this tree like 20 feet away carrying what I think was probably a fish. hoooooooly shiiiiit. Nearly had a heart attack. and with a leash in one hand and my phone in the other, no pictures. So it lands in the next tall tree between us and home so I pull the camera back out and continue walking. When I'm just about perpendicular to the tree it takes off again straight at us then turns to the right back towards the nest. I look back at the tree it had been sitting on and the smaller eagle is sitting there watching us too! It takes off to the left to get back to the nest going the opposite direction as the other and my camera sucks and those pictures were all blurry. Then the sun was nearly down and it was really cold so we walked the 20 or so minutes home. Now I'm eating spaghetti and typing this. Ta da! Now here's the pictures. I imagine if you click them they'll get bigger.

  • Playing with glue.

    MAHA!

This is what my family calls the Tin Lizzy. Which is basically no car at all. From what I know, someone built it in their garage sometime in the 19teens trying to become the next Ford or whatever. My grandfather owned an auto part store for a lot of years and when people couldn't afford parts they'd make a trade and sometime over the years he acquired this ridiculously awesome little car. My grandparents cabin was robbed last weekend, most of the stuff has been recovered, but one of the things the criminals did not take, ironically, is the tin lizzy. They did cut the back lamps off, have not been recovered. So anyway, last week we went out to the cabin to move out and store the valuables still up there and I took a picture of my cousin gripping the emergency break as hard as she could. heh

  • Really loving this song, struck a deep chord. I think I'll have it on repeat for the next year and a half. At least.

Hold out until at least the 2 minute mark to hear the chorus.

  • What terrible terrible news. I can't even express.

I feel like they've been such a massive part of my life, I mean, I know people that I met solely based on the fact that we both listened to them. I don't even know.

  • Question:
    Does anyone actually chat anymore?
    What happened to messenger?

I quit using messenger for various reasons and when I got a new computer I didn't even bother redownloading any of them. So does anyone use them anymore? ICQ? Yahoo? MSN? AOL? Something new?

  • I've begun getting ready for Halloween because it is without a doubt the best time of year. You thought that was Christmas? You were wrong. Halloween.
TBH, I've been slowly preparing for the past month or two, haha, because we throw a party every year and I have discovered in the past that if you leave off till October, it really really sucks and you regret ever saying you'd throw a party in the first place.
So, today, I sorted through all my costumes, so far I have two for this year, one for the party, Lestat de Lioncourt, one for the haunted house at Preston Castle, evil clown, and I have no idea what I'm wearing the actual day of Halloween. Fortunately, I'm a costume nut and so I have some options.
Also finished my mask for the Halloween party or more actually I should be calling it a masquerade ball this year.
Then I dug out all the crates of decorations and started putting them up and out and about.
And finally tonight I finished my dogs costume. I hadn't really had any brilliant brain waves about a costume for him yet but I saw this ghost costume on tumblr that was brilliant so I sort of edited it and made it for him, finished most of it last night.
Now ignore all those words and here are some pictures, hahaha.

  • Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week starts today! I'm celebrating by reading The Great Gatsby, which so far, I love. It seems pretty short so I'm thinking I might also either finally force myself to finish Little Women, or read Lolita. Other options include: The Giver and Anne Franks Diary

Here's a relevant picture I found on tumblr awhile back:

  • My main activity at the moment is planning and preparing for Halloween. Mostly building various masks for the masquerade ball. Not to mention trying to come up with other decorations. Also planning and soon to be setting up the haunted house which takes place in a genuine haunted castle: Buy tickets here. That covers my two weekends before Halloween and leaves off the day itself. I have a masquerade costume and a haunted house costume but no day of costume. I think by the time the actual day of Halloween comes, I'll not feel like doing much more than sitting around and watching horror movies all day. haha. I'll at least wear a cape.
Went to the mall with Caitlin today, mostly just went along for the ride and to entertain her. We talked about next years Burning Man which the website hasn't posted anything about yet and I'd like to know how much I need for a ticket. Apparently potatoes rot really fast in the desert so we're no longer planning on bringing ten tons of them to cook.
According to google, the high tomorrow is 79. So, yay! fall! Weather.com says 83. Either way, yay! it's not 110! I think our highest this summer was 112.
I'm pretty sure my dog really thinks he could catch a goose.

About Me

  • Its scary to pursue a job rooted in Art. You have to be willing to face the fact that you probably aren't going to make the same money or live the same life as someone who pursues investment banking.
